What's the difference between stump grinding and stump removal?
Stump grinding uses a machine to chew the stump down into wood chips, 6–12 inches below ground level, leaving the roots to break down naturally in the soil. Full stump removal digs out the entire root system, which is far more invasive and leaves a large hole. For nearly every yard, grinding is faster, cleaner, cheaper, and all you need.
How deep do you grind the stump?
We grind stumps 6 to 12 inches below grade — deep enough to replant grass, lay sod, build, or landscape over the spot. If you have specific plans for the area, just tell us and we'll grind to the depth you need.
Will the tree or stump grow back after grinding?
No. Grinding removes the stump and the root flare where regrowth starts, so the tree can't sprout back — no chemicals required. Occasionally a species known for suckering may push a few shoots from leftover roots; mowing knocks those out quickly, and they die off without the stump feeding them.
Can I plant grass or a new tree where the stump was?
Yes. After grinding we can leave the wood chips to fill the hole or rake them out and backfill with soil so you can seed, sod, or plant. If you want to plant a new tree in the exact same spot, let us know and we'll grind deeper and clear more of the root mass.
What happens to the wood chips and debris?
Grinding produces a pile of wood chips. We can rake them back into the hole as natural mulch, spread them, or haul them away — your choice. Either way we clean up and leave the site looking better than we found it.
