Stump Grinding & Stump Removal
Stump grinding is what we do best — it's the heart of Brown County Stump Grinding. We grind stumps 6 to 12 inches below grade so you can replant grass, lay sod, build, or just reclaim your yard.
From a single backyard stump to full lot clearing, no stump is too big or too small. We handle all sizes and species, then rake and clean the debris so your property looks better than when we arrived.
- Ground 6–12" below grade for replanting or building
- Single stumps to full-property clearing
- All sizes and species — hardwood, pine, you name it
- Debris raked and hauled, site left clean
What to expect from us
Here's how a typical job goes: we look at the stump (in person or from a photo you text us), give you a free estimate, and schedule the work. On the day of the job we bring the right-sized grinder — a compact tracked machine that fits through a standard backyard gate, or a high-horsepower rig for the monsters — position it over the stump, and grind it down 6 to 12 inches below grade.
Grinding produces a pile of wood chips. Your call what happens next: we can rake them back into the hole as natural mulch, spread them in your beds, or haul them off entirely. Either way, the stump is gone for good — no chemicals, no waiting years for it to rot, no regrowth.
Tight access is our specialty. Fence lines, backyard gates, slopes, stumps right against a foundation or patio — our tracked machine spreads its weight so it gets to the stump without tearing up the lawn on the way.
Stump Grinding questions, answered
Can you grind a stump that's close to my fence, foundation, or patio?
Yes — we grind right up alongside fences, foundations, patios, and walkways. We adjust the machine and approach to protect what's around the stump, and we've handled plenty of stumps in tight corners other outfits pass on.
What about sprinkler lines, invisible fences, or buried utilities?
Tell us about anything buried near the stump — irrigation lines, invisible-fence wire, low-voltage lighting, septic components — and we'll work around it. If you're not sure what's down there, mention it during the estimate and we'll talk through it before any grinding starts.
Do I need to be home when you grind the stump?
Usually not. As long as we can reach the stump and we've agreed on the details, most customers just leave the gate open. We'll confirm everything with you by phone and send photos when the job is done if you're away.
Will the grinder tear up my yard getting to the stump?
Our compact grinder rides on rubber tracks that spread its weight, so it can cross a lawn without leaving ruts in normal conditions. In soft, wet ground we'll talk with you about timing or track protection — we treat your yard like it's ours.
